Not listed on UKNIWM

Located in St Columba's church on the seafront at Largs. OS Map Ref NS 202 595.

Note that this church is also the Largs Heritage Centre and is open in the summer months from 12noon till 4pm everyday except Wednesdays and Sundays from 2 to 4pm.

This Roll of Honour presented quite a challenge to be able to photograph and display it in such a way as all the names are readable. Note that this is a Roll of Honour for the whole of Largs and not just St Columba’s, it contains names of those listed on other church memorials. This should prove to be a great aid to researchers because it contains Regiment which is not shown on the parish memorial or on at least St Columba’s WW1 memorial plaque.

The numbers would bear some serious cross checking, this ROH only lists 82 died whereas the WW1 plaque in the church has 91 names and the town memorial 85 names. I can only conclude that the church WW1 plaque contains names who were not considered eligible for inclusion on the town’s memorials.
