WW1
Pte. Felix Shields

(Hamilton Advertiser 28th September 1918)
"Word has been received that Private Felix Shields, third son of Mr & Mrs John Shields of Knowe Terrace, Sandy Road, Carluke, has died of wounds in France. He was 20 years of age, and prior to enlisting was hammersman at Hyndshaw Colliery. He enlisted in the local H.L.I. on October 5, 1915, and was for a time on coast service. He was drafted out to the east, and was in Egypt and Palestine. He took part in several of the big engagements, and came through unscratched. In the spring of this year he came over with the 52nd Division to France. On 26th August his regiment had to go over the top, and in the advance Private Shields was shot through the head. He was unconscious when taken to the London Field Ambulance Hospital, and died a few hours after admission. Two other sons of Mr & Mrs Shields are still serving. Mr Shields has been on coastal duty with the Volunteers for three months back."

FAO milmor_1

Richard and Alex McMahon are certainly brothers, there is information on the Carluke Families Memorial Book which shows they share the same parents who are recorded as being in Co Armagh.

cheers ... Meg
