Echt - Gordon District
UKNIWM Ref No. 8576

The Echt war memorial features the bronze lifesize figurative sculpture of a Gordon Highlander of the First World War by Aberdeen born sculptor William McMillan. The statue is set on a wide and tapering pedestal and two low steps of rustic grey granite blocks. The commemoration and names of the WWI dead are listed in black lead lettering on dressed granite tablets set into the faces of the pedestal. The names are listed by date of death.
The monument stands within the kirkyard.
For more information on the sculptor William McMillan see the posting on the 'Sculptors' section at the end of the Forum.

Above - The muzzle and breech of the soldier's rifle are protected against the ever-present mud of the trenches.

The two photographs below supplied and reproduced by kind permission of Stan Bruce.
