I learned only recently that my father, JOHN LEWIS, a wounded veteran, unveiled a memorial in PORT GLASGOW in September 1921. All I have is a poem http://tinyurl.com/325fuh published in "The Port Glasgow Express" which speaks of "29 lads who left the Toll Corner, all of whom lost their lives". Maybe Dad enlisted with them; he certainly lived in Glasgow and was a shipyard platelayer when he joined the Territorials in 1914.
Has anyone heard of this memorial? Or can tell me where The Toll Corner was? |
