Anne,

This is some piece of work you have undertaken, a wealth of info you have added to one humble photograph. Well done!

Donny

The GNSR War Memorial was removed from Aberdeen Station last year as part of the redevelopment work there. It is currently at the Grampian Transport Museuem in Alford - see www.gtm.org.uk for details of opening times. The Memorial will move back to Aberdeen Station when development work is complete. Current target is for re-dedication in November this year, but of course the current economic climate may affect that.

Adam, Mark,

Sorry I did not realise my photobucket account was not active, I have just re-activated it and added another photo of the memorial.

The memorial is back in the station and is now situated in one of the walkways which give access from the new shopping center to the station concourse. So instead of being tucked away in a corner of the booking office where very few people saw it, it is now passed by hundreds of people daily. It was rededicated on Rememberance Sunday 2009.

A small booklet entitled "The Great North of Scotland Railway War Memorial" was published by the Great North of Scotland Railway Association to mark the occasion. This booklet gives a short history of the company during the war and biographical details of the men remembered on the memorial.

Donny

This shows it in it's new location.
It is now in a public access passage. Although plenty will see it, I am not convinced it is a safe as when in the ticket office.
