Name: TOWNS, ARCHIBALD
Initials: A
Nationality: Canadian
Rank: Sergeant
Regiment/Service: Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment)
Unit Text: 7th Bn.
Age: 27
Date of Death: 03/06/1916

Additional information: Son of James and Jean Brown Towns, of 820, Strathcona St., Winnipeg.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 18 - 28 - 30.
Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL

This man is wrongly listed on CWGC as ARCHIBALD TOWNS

According to his Birth Certificate, ARCHIBALD TAWNS, was born on 19th December 1889 at 13 Low Craigends, Kilsyth, to James Tawns (Mason, Journeyman) and Jane Tawns (nee Brown).
His parents were married on 14th August 1874 at Kilsyth.

On his attestation papers ( http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-110.01-e.php?PHPSESSID=g2279jkm963snmegfbrlg7b5o5&q1=towns&q2=archibald&q3=&interval=20 ), his name does look more like TOWNS than TAWNS, but then his place of birth STIRLING looks more like STERLING and we all know there is no such place!
