The Lauder Old Parish Church WW1 memorial plaque lists one man who (I think) does not appear on any other memorial in the Borders.
He is listed as:
PRIVATE FREDERICK E. SHEPPARD CANADIANS.
Frederick Emanuel Sheppard – age 19 – Air Mechanic 2nd Class (73448) Royal Flying Corps.
Frederick was an auto mechanic living at Park Avenue, Philadelphia, USA when he enlisted in the RFC in Canada in August 1917. He contracted pneumonia and died in Toronto, Ontario. (Source: US Residents serving in the BEF and Service record)
Born 1897 in Lauder. Son of the late Lillias Simson (Wilson) Sheppard of the Black Bull Hotel, Lauder (died 1906 in Lauder) and of Frederick Emanuel Sheppard of 525 South Palmetta Avenue, Daytona, Florida, U.S.A.
Died on Service on 26 January 1918 and buried in Toronto (Prospect) Cemetery, Canada _________________ Ken |
