Cr. Sergt FRED DERRETT, Royal Scots Fusiliers, Sergt. Major 7 : L? died 1920 aged 86 years
Lair 182, St. John's Churchyard

After leaving the Royal Scots Fusiliers Frederick Derrett joined the 7th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers.
The missing letters and complete inscription I think would be:-
7:L R V or 7:L R Vol
Also his Attestation Papers when he enlisted with the 21st Foot (later renamed Royal Scots Fusiliers) show him born 1838 which would make him 82 when he died. Not 86 as is on the stone. |
