A.H.M. HENDERSON.

Named on the Galashiels War Memorial in Selkirkshire as:

2ND.LT. A. HUBERT M. HENDERSON. King's Own Scottish Borderers
Andrew Hubert Millin Henderson – age 20 – Second Lieutenant, 1/4th (Border) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Andrew was educated at St. Mary's School in Melrose, Roxburghshire and at the Edinburgh Institution (now Stewart's Melville College) before becoming a student of medicine at Edinburgh University in 1913. He was a Sergeant and Lieutenant in the 1st Highland Cadet Battalion of the Royal Scots from 1911 to May 1913 when he gained a commission in the Territorial 4th KOSB. Andrew landed with his battalion at Gallipoli in June 1915 but he was killed a month later during the battle at Achi Baba Nullah.
Born 1895 in St. Andrew, Edinburgh. Son of Dr. Percy James Henderson, M.B. and of Hannah Jane or Annie (Millin) Henderson of 9 Church Street, Galashiels.
Missing in Action on 12 July 1915 and named on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
Also named on the Edinburgh Institution and Edinburgh University Rolls of Honour.

W. BARRIE YOUNG.

Named on the Earlston Parish War Memorial in Berwickshire as:

YOUNG WILLIAM BARRIE CAPT. R.A.F.
William Barrie Young – age 24 – Captain 62nd Training Squadron, Royal Air Force.
William was educated at St. Mary's School in Melrose and at Edinburgh Academy, and studied mechanics at the Technical College in Galashiels. He qualified as a pilot at Hendon in September 1915 while a Trooper with the Lothians and Border Horse Yeomanry and he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps in October. He was badly wounded during aerial combat over the Somme in October 1916. After his recovery he was promoted to Flight Commander and Captain in March 1918 and was appointed Examiner of Wings and Instructors. William was killed in a flying accident at Hounslow Heath Aerodrome, Staines, Middlesex.
Born 1894 in Earlston. Son of Dr. John Young and of Margaret (Brownlie) Young of The Thorpe, Earlston.
Died on Service on 8 August 1918 and buried in Earlston Parish Churchyard.
Also named on the Earlston Parish Church Memorial, on the St. John's United Free Church memorial in Earlston, on the St. Mary's School memorial and on the Edinburgh Academy memorial.

GEORGE N. M'DOUGAL

Named on the Lauder Parish and Burgh War Memorial as:

GEORGE McDOUGAL, M.C. CAPT. ROYAL ENGINEERS
George Nisbet McDougal, Military Cross – age 23 – Captain (125156) 629 Field Regiment, Royal Engineers.
George was educated at Pyatshaw School in Lauder, at St. Mary's School in Melrose and at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh before entering the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich in the summer of 1939. He was commissioned in March 1940 and promoted to Lieutenant in September 1914. As acting Captain, he was awarded a M.C. in recognition of gallant and distinguished services with the 8th Army in Libya in 1943 and received his medal at Buckingham Palace a month before he was killed at La Breche during the D-Day landings at Normandy.

Born 1921 in Lauder. Son of Arthur Robert and Helen Maud (Logan) McDougal of Blyth, Lauder.
Killed in Action on 6 June 1944 and buried in Hermanville War Cemetery, France
Also named on a memorial cairn at Peat Law, Blyth, Lauder and on the St. Mary's School and Merchiston Castle School memorials.

W. LEONARD REID.

Named on the Foulden Parish War Memorial in Berwickshire as:

Capt. W.L. REID, 2nd DORSETS 14-4-15.
William Leonard Reid – age 24 – Captain, 2nd Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment.
William was educated at St. Mary's in Melrose and at Celle, Hanover in Germany before attending the Royal Military College at Sandhurst from where he was commissioned in November 1909. He joined the 2nd Dorsets in India in January 1910 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1912. He then obtained the position of Station Staff Officer and Cantonment Magistrate at the army camp at Deolali, Bombay but resigned to rejoin his regiment in August 1914 and moved with them to Mesopotamia in November 1914. He was attached to the Indian Government Office but returned to his battalion to help deal with Turkish forces near Basra. William was fatally wounded at Shaiba.
Born 1889 in Foulden. Son of the Rev. John Reid and of Martha Craig (Gilchrist) Reid of Foulden Manse.
Died of Wounds on 15 April 1915 and buried in Basra War Cemetery. Iraq.
