Working through Kelvinside Academy War Memorial I have come across a Colonel GH Huang of the Chinese Air Force in the WW2 section. An internet search has revealed nothing. Any thoughts, comments or observations? Do we have many Chinese on Scottish War Memorials?

It may be the case that his name was spelled differently in more recent years after Pinyin was adopted instead of the Wade-Giles system e.g Peking becoming Beijing and Mao Tse-tung now known as Mao Zedong.

A man named GEORGE HUMPHREY HUANG was born in Kelvin, Glasgow in 1917 (the birth was also registered in Milton)

On the 1930 Valuation Roll a Mrs. Jean B Huang ( a widow) was living at 94 Queensburgh Gardens, Govan. (This street is in the Hyndland area in the West End of Glasgow) - However Jean B Rintoul married Charles L Huang in 1918 in Camlachie, Glasgow.
Possibly a relative???

He qualified as a pilot in July 1937 at the Far East Flying Training School at Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong.

Ken, there seems to be a pretty good chance that he's the man. Excellent piece of ferreting! I guess the big question now is, "What happened next?. Thanks for looking into it - I know you enjoy a challenge.

He had a brother Charles according to this website:

http://cnac.org/huang01.htm

It says he was killed whilst flying The Hump in January 1945 with the China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC). There's a couple of photo of him. Also notes he was aka George Wong.

And this was his fate:

https://cnac.org/accident040.htm

"George was flying [in a C-47] from Chungking to Kunming with a very valuable load of silk in very bad weather. He flew past Kunming and hit a mountain 100 miles east of Kunming."
