The commemoration mentioned for James Copland on the Menin Gate and also Sanctuary Wood Cemetery is an anomaly.

He was originally believed to be missing and his name was put on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing. However, he was later discovered buried in Sanctuary Wood and so his commemoration is now there over his grave. It appears it may be a clerical error which came to light around 1980.

I don’t know if his name has actually been removed from the Gate yet or not but it will be in due course. The inscription thus does not officially exist and is absent from the CWGC database.
