I have submitted the case for Thomas McCully to Terry Denham who will foward to NAM for consideration.
The chances of McCully being commemorated by CWGC are not high.
His condition was pre-existing and the Medical Board reported that it was not the result of nor aggravated by miltary service.
The D.G.A.M.S. did subsequently conclude that, for pension purposes, the condition may be regarded as so aggravated - Terry pointed out that the pension rules were wider than those for CWGC status.
However, there was one statement on the pension papers which Terry had never seen before and is highly unusual given it was written by an official source. The powerful assertion read:
"Of course it existed long before enlistment, and he was quite unfit to serve in any capacity. To send a man in his condition out to the Front was absurd; it meant signing his Death Warrant". |
