Apologies if this one has already been looked at.

John Black served with 1/5 KOSB and I believe was discharged in Nov 1915 as medically unfit. I cannot find any service records on Ancestry so have no idea what his medical condition was.

I have a newspaper article recording his death on 19 Jan 1920 and his burial. I have his death cert which makes no mention of military service but records Phthisis 4 years and Haemorrhage 20 days. As he died just over 4 years from his believed date of discharge, I think this could be his cause of discharge, but I just cannot prove it.

He is buried in Troqueer Burial Ground and I have photographed his gravestone which is on SWGP.

He is not listed on CWGC or SNWM.

Paul
Teddy has quite a bit of info on this man at
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/warmemscot-ftopic6038.html
but I'm not clear about whether his Non-comm status has been investigated.

I thought I recognised him. I just posted it here to make sure Jim had spotted it and looked to see if anything could be done. I'm not too hopeful I must admit.

Did anything happen with this man's case?

Thanks

I have done nothing with this and have no other info than is on the two threads.

Is it worth submitting to Terry for an opinion?

Without a service record, I'm not sure that there is anything else we can look for, is there?

Looks like a "no further action" to me. Sad

Pension Card exists which state cause of discharge was tubercole of lung and it was due to war service.

I'll get his death cert and submit it - could you let me have the pension record please?

Terry got back to me to say that this man had already been submitted in Feb 2020 by another Paul (not me).

Sorry Paul I had forgotten that this popped up on the Great War Forum about four years ago
https://www.greatwarforum.org/topic/242102-serjeant-john-black-15th-ksob/?tab=comments#comment-2854601

There are some interesting family details there.
