This thread is now solely for discussion of potential memorials not covered by the Project in the Dunbartonshire area.

I realise that there may be some confusion as to which of the two unitary authorities some memorials in Dunbartonshire fall into so I have merged the two in this list. As with other lists if there are any errors or omissions please let me know. The authorities cover an area from the Glasgow suburbs to Loch Lomond which may cause some confusion over whether a memorial should be under the Glasgow section or Argyll & Bute but these communities are all within the present Dunbartonshires’ boundaries.

At the end there is a list of churches in the Glasgow part of East and West Dunbartonshire which exist at present but I have no record of any memorials in them. I’m sure some of them must have memorials.

Any memorials highlighted in blue are links to posts in this forum.

I have been recording a number of these memorials.

1. The Bonhill Parish Cenotaph is in Christie Park, Alexandria. It is opposite the Old Argyll Motor Car Works now a shopping centre called Loch Lomond Outlets and just south of the Vale of Leven Hospital.

2. Bearsden WM is at Bearsden Cross in the centre of Bearsden.

3. I do not think there is a 'Dalnottar' WM. There is a memorial to the Blitz in the Old Dalnottar Cemetery

4. Duntocher & Hardgate WM is on Roman Road, opposite the Antonine Sports Centre in Duntocher. I think there is only one memorial not two.

4. Kilmaronock WM lies on the A811 also known as the Old Military Road about 2 miles east of Gartocharn.

5. I do not think there is a 'Kilpatrick' WM. There is a memorial in Old Kilpatrick

6. Milton WM lies in the grounds of the Milton School (now a nursery) on the A72.

7. Other memorials not listed include

Clydebank, Graham Avenue - a cairn to the Clydebank blitz victims

Clydebank, HCI Park, Beardmore Way - three red granite stones two of which were outside the former Beardmore shipbuilding works. They give the roll of honour of the men of the works that died in WW1.

Dumbarton, Boer War - a red granite cross outside the Municipal buildings

Balloch - I'm not sure what to call this memorial as it lies in Balloch by the wall of the big white church by the roundabout. The WM was moved from the former Alexandria Parish Church in Alexandria. I believe the church in Balloch was called the United Reform but is now called Alexandria Parish Church.

WMR 64144- The plaque apparently read
The Prescott Bridge/ This steel beam bridge was constructed by 583 EOD Sqn RE (V) during 1990/ The bridge is dedicated to the memory of SSgt Jim Prescott RE (Bomb Disposal) who gave his life during the Falklands Campaign.

Rather oblique images taken in 2020 suggest that the plaque has now been replaced

This link is now inoperable, but this is the new one-
https://polishcombatantsmemorial.org.uk/monuments/#!

I have now raised WMR 91125 and 91126 for this memorial and a new one by the Titan Crane unveiled in 2019.

It is an interesting question whether all the memorials on this web page are either on this forum or on WMR- a question for another day!
