Ian McKendrick is also named on Trinity St Paul's Parish Church (Cambuslang) Memorial. A search on Ancestry reveals a family tree with him named as John (Ian) McKendrick who died 10 July 1944. I have been unable to trace Ian McKendrick on CWGC but there is this man:

Regiment/Service: Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment), 2nd Bn, The Glasgow Highlanders.
Date of Death: 10/7/1944
