The memorial was by monumental sculptors Messrs. Scott Rae of Glasgow, the daybook entry reads:
'Order no. 6008, Symington, Grey obelisk, Erected August 1921, Daybook 348'.

From The Scotsman, Tuesday 16th August 1921.

    SYMINGTON

    The unveiling ceremony and dedication service in connection with the monument erected to the memory of the eight men who fell in the war from Symington (Lanarkshire), took place at Symington on Sunday, in the presence of a large gathering. Mr W. K. Jackson, Convenor of the Memorial Committee, presided, and the unveiling ceremony was performed by Captain Walter E. Elliot, M.P.
