You've got the right man guys!

Forfar Herald 27/11/1914.

News has reached Forfar that Sergeant William Doig of the Black Watch, son of Sergeant Doig of the Burgh Police, was killed in action on 2nd October. The sad intelligence was conveyed in a letter received yesterday morning by Mrs William George, 20 Glamis Road, from her husband, who belonged to Sergeant Doig's company and was present with him when he fell. George states that. the Black Watch were under severe attack both from artillery and rifle fire at the time. The sergeant was struck on the back by a piece of a shell which inflicted a severe wound, and he indicated his intention of withdrawing from the trench with the view of securing the services of the doctor. Shrapnel and rifle bullets were flying about them like hail, and George sought to persuade him to remain within the comparative safety of the trench. The sergeant, however, replied that he would risk it. He had only proceeded about ten yards from the trench when be fell, apparently struck a second time and it was found that he bad been killed. Sergeant Doig was 30 years of age. He enlisted in the Army in 1902 and wad eight years with the colours. On leaving the service in 1910 he joined the Hamilton Police and was within a short time of completing his period with the Reserve when war broke out and he was called up. He went to the Continent with his Batta!ion and took part in all the fighting in which the 'Black Watch were engaged from Mons onwards. He has left a widow and four of a family, for whom much sympathy will be expressed. Lance-Corporal George, who is in hospital in Southampton, came to grief two days after Sergeant Doig's death, having been severely wounded about the hack while in the trenches. He too is a reservist.
