Wigtownshire Free Press (28/11/1918): Miss Johnston, Sheuchan Street, Stranraer, has received official notice of the death, on 3rd inst, of her brother, L-Corpl Samuel Johnston, ASC, from wounds received in action on 2nd inst. L-Corpl Johnston was a son of the late Mr Malcom Johnston, dairyman, Ballantrae, and prior to enlisting in June 1915, he was a member of Hamilton Burgh Police Force. Deceased had been on active service for a long time.
