Crossford is in the Clyde Valley, and is nowadays well known for the number of garden centres in the area. This memorial appears to have had a coat of paint applied to it at some point in the past:

There is a typo on the WW1 info. pte Andrew Baxter A&SH was 20 when he was killed.

Andrew Baxter was my Great Grandfathers brother. He was born on 11/02/1896. Then aged 20 on the 28th February 1916, he enlisted in the 1/7th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at Stirling.

After enlisting at Lanark it appears he went to Clackmannan as part of the TF Association. His Statement of the Services record shows his army history as:
Attested 28/2/16
Mobilised 28/2/16
Posted 2/3/16
A&S Highlanders 3/7th Embodied 2/3/16
A&S Highlanders 1/7th BEF Killed in Action 17/11/16

In addition to the detail on the Statement of the Services record, his Casualty Form – Active Service, shows he was “In the Field” or wounded “In the Field” on 27th July 1916 AFB 213.

I revisited this memorial last year as it has had some restoration work completed on it. Names from post-1945 conflicts have also been added.
