The school is on Ayr Road Douglas ML11 0QA

Thanks to the staff for permission to photograph the Memorials which are situated in the main entrance hall. The lighting caused some shadows on the pictures.

There are 2 memorials. One is a "Scrap of Paper" which lists all those who went off to serve. The second memorial is a Roll of Honour for those who made the supreme sacrifice.

Named on the Moffat War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

SHANKLAND, PTE. T. DURHAM L. I.
Thomas Shankland – age 32 – Private (6/5995 & 251004) 1/6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.
Thomas enlisted as Private 4240 in the 3/5th DLI in November 1915. He was posted to the 6th Battalion in France in December 1916.
Born 1886 in Moffat. Son of William and Agnes (Aitken) Shankland of Townfoot, Douglas, Lanarkshire. (Source: Hamilton Advertiser 25/5/1918 p.1)
In 1901 Thomas as an apprentice forester in Douglas and in 1911 he was a boarder at Mill Cottage, Rushyford, Ferryhill in County Durham where he was a forester on Sir William Eden's Windlestone Estate.
Husband of Caroline or Kitty (North) Shankland of 3 Beaconsfield Street and of 21 Greenbank Crescent, Darlington who he married in 1916 in Darlington.
Missing in Action on 26 March 1918 and named on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
Also named on the Douglasdale War Memorial.

James Gold Kerr is also named on Douglas War Memorial. Furthermore, he is named on Newstead Village Green War Memorial. Biographical information about that memorial states that he was born at Carmichael, Lanarkshire, the son of gamekeeper John Kirk Kerr and his wife, Martha Gold of Happenden, Douglas. The family later moved to Grindleford.
