BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 12.02.16
The community will learn with regret that Major George Humphrey Ingram Graham, 44th Merwara Infantry, formerly of the 1st Devonshire regiment, and a son-in-law of Mrs Hill-Whitson of Parkhill, was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 7th inst.
The deceased, who was 42 years of age, was the eldest son of Major-General G.F.I. Graham, late Bengal S.C., and married Lilias , eldest daughter of the late Mr Charles Hill-Whitson and of Mrs Hill-Whitson, Parkhill. He was educated at St. Paul’s School, served in the ranks of the Scots Greys for five years, and was given a commission in the 1st Devonshire Regiment, with whom he saw service in the Tirah Campaign in 1897, and held a medal and two clasps. He also served throughout the South African Campaign, taking part in the defence of Ladysmith, and was the holder of the Queen’s and King’s medals and clasps. In 1911 he exchanged into the Indian Army, and left Aymer for Mesopotamia in January last year.
He leaves a widow and two children, who resided for a considerable period at Shewalton, Rosemount, and who are presently at Baldock, Herts. The deepest sympathy will go out to Mrs Graham and family.
