The memorial lies on a grassy hill on the west side of the village of Port Wemyss facing Portnahaven. It is a stone celtic cross on a stone block. The block lies on a cemented stone cairn/ mound that rises above the level of the enclosing low thick cement wall. The main inscription and names of WW1 fallen face west towards Portnahaven. The inscription and names of fallen of WW2 faces east. The main face has celtic knotwork on the cross although not on the wheel.
