Loans (& Fullarton) - Kyle & Carrick District
The Loans war memorial is a rustic grey granite celtic cross with wheel-head and bosses. The face of the cross shaft is intricately carved and it stands on a rustic pedestal and a low base of local stone.
The inscription reads:
TO THE

THE GREAT WAR

PRIVATE GEORGE KANE, ROYAL SCOTS
(Deid of wounds)
Intimation has been received that Pte. George Kane, Royal Scots, died on 7th October, from wounds received in action. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Kane, Sculloch Flat, Loans, and joined the Colours on reaching the age of 18 years. He has only been at the front for two months. Before going on service he was an apprentice baker with Messrs Wallace Brothers, Troon. Another son is serving with the Colours."
