I cannot read the names on the memorial photographs and if this soldier has not been left out then there is a difference in the regiment printed in the Selkirk Roll of Honour. It reads Royal Scots - should be Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was transferred to the R.S.F. September, 1916.
The Glasgow Herald, Saturday, 24th March, 1917.
"Deaths on Service.
HAMILTON.- At a British Red Cross Hospital on the 22nd inst., William Gillespie, aged 17 years, youngest son of James Hamilton, Philiphaugh, Selkirk."
Some service records exist for this soldier.
Attested 8th May, 1915. 9th. Bn. (Highrs.) Royal Scots. Service Nr. 3292.
11th September, 1916. Transferred 4th. (Res.) Bn. R.S.F. and posted 1st Bn. R.S.F.
Died 22nd March, 1917 at 8th. British Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet.

Not that I can see.
The Douglas brothers appear in a couple of paragraphs in my new book and I also mention John Dickson but I had no further information on him. _________________
