Certainly the oldest individual memorial I have spotted in Berwickshire so far, Lieutenant Weir was "barbarously killed" by Canadian rebels.

He's remembered by this plaque in Eccles Parish Church, which is still in very good condition.





Both parts of Canada (Upper and Lower) rebelled in 1837:

Lower Canada's rebellion seems to have witnessed fairly few casualties.

Although Britain quelled the revolt, they lost the opening Battle of Saint-Denis:

and this little-known encounter was where George Weir lost his life.

32nd Regiment of Foot was the Cornwall Regiment.
