He is named on the Lauder Parish War Memorial as:

THE HON. A , MAITLAND, MAJ, CAMERONS
The Hon. Alfred Henry Maitland – age 41 – Major, 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
Alfred was commissioned in the 1st Camerons in 1894 and as a Lieutenant he took part in the Nile Expedition in 1898. As a Captain he served during the South African Wars and by 1904 he was the Battalion Adjutant. He then served on the Staff at the Royal Military College at Sandhurst until 1909 when he became the Adjutant to the 10th Battalion of the King's Regiment (The Liverpool Scottish) In 1913 he rejoined his Regiment in Edinburgh and was promoted to Major. Alfred landed with his battalion at Le Havre on 14 August 1914 but he was killed a month later at the Aisne.
Born 1872 in Nowgong, Central India. Son of Frederick Henry Maitland, 13th Earl of Lauderdale, and of the late Charlotte Sarah (Sleigh) Maitland (died 1879) Husband of Edith (Scobell) Maitland who he married in 1905 in London.
Missing in Action on 14 September 1914 and named on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.
Also named on an individual memorial in Lauder Parish Church, on the Westminster School Roll of Honour and on the Hoylake Roll of Honour in the Wirral, Merseyside.
