Got a double puzzle for you.
On the Glencairn Parish WW2 memorial in Moniaive, Dumfriesshire is

D/R. FERGUS DONALDSON, R.S.

Any ideas what the D/R might stand for???

The second part is that he was a KOSB man and there's no hint of a Royal Scots connection.

DONALDSON. —Previously reported missing on 15th April, 1945, now officially reported killed on that date and interred in the Church Cemetery at Baden, Private Fergus Donaldson. K.O.S.B., beloved husband of Jean Frew, Ayr Street, Moniaive.

PRIVATE FERGUS DONALDSON, MONIAIVE. Mrs Donaldson, Ayr Street, Moniaive, has now received official intimation that her husband, Private Fergus Donaldson, 5th K.O.S.B., was killed in action on 15th April, 1945. Private Donaldson was 42 years of age. He was a Territorial when war broke out, and fought in France in 1940 and was evacuated at Cherbourg. Before the outbreak of war he was employed by the G.P.O. and was well known in Moniaive and surrounding district. He is survived by his widow and one son.

Well the Glencairn Memorial Book has over half a page on him but no mention of D/R or any explanation of any Regiment other than KOSB.

Thanks for looking Paul.
Getting the regiment "wrong" is not that uncommon but D/R is such an unusual one and I cannot think of any rank that might fit Confused

My only thoughts were Driver/Reconaissance or Driver/Recovery but I never came across those terms in my service.
