Not on CWGC or SNWM. Sergeant William Agnew, 4039, 1/6 King's Own Scottish Borderers. Discharged as no longer physically fit for service on 19/11/1915.

Wigtownshire Free Press (22/7/1915): Further information is to hand that Sergeant Agnew was shot about the knee by a shrapnel bullet and is now in hospital in Alexandria, doing well.

The 2 September edition of the Free Press carried a long article about Sergeant Agnew's return home and his role in the fighting in the Dardanelles.

Wigtownshire Free Press (15/4/1922): Mr William Agnew, foreman printer, Creebridge, died early on Sunday morning, after being laid aside for a very short time. He had been confined to the house for little more than a week, but latterly his illness took a more serious turn, pneumonia supervened, and he succumbed to this in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mr Agnew was on active service during the war, and was severely wounded, and though he made a good improvement, he was never so robust as before going to the Front.

Gilbert McI Clark

Not named on CWGC.

Pte 16101 Gilbert McIlwrick Clark, Highland Light Infantry. Served 2/10/1914 to 10/10/1916 when he was discharged due to sickness.

Wigtownshire Free Press (5/1/1922): We regret to report the death, which took place on Tuesday forenoon, of Mr Gilbert Clark, agent of the Clydesdale Bank. The deceased had been ailing for some time, in fact, he had never altogether recovered from the effect of his war service, having been buried when a shell burst, and afterwards suffered from shellshock.

Also named on Ewart High School WW1 Memorial.

Thanks to Ken Morrison for pinting me in the right direction with this one.
