UKNIWM Ref: Not listed

Located in the entrance of Penninghame Parish Church at OS Map Ref NX 410 654

The memorial was moved at some time in the past from the Free church at Creebridge, to Penninghame Parish Church on the closure of the former.

James Wyllie Borland – age 26 – Corporal (2300 & 240709) 1/5th (Dumfries and Galloway) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
James was a printer when he enlisted in November 1914. He was demobilised in February 1919. Records show that he was found to be fit during a medical in December 1918 but he died five months later of tuberculosis at his home. (Source:Service record and GRoS – Death Register)
Born 1893 in Penninghame. (Source:GRoS – Birth Register)
Son of James and Elizabeth (Baird) Borland of 19 Arthur Street, Newton Stewart.
Died – 27 April 1919.
