I have just received an email from Mr. John Hall who reported that a service of remembrance with about 30 people attending was held at the memorial to mark Remembrance Day, and that plans are underway raise funds to refurbish the memorial. He also reported that the surrounding area and paths are well kept.
Good news indeed!!!

Good news indeed Dugie, it's nice to know it's still well looked after. Could you please add this information to the existing Minard thread rather than start this new one.

Kind regards

Adam

It is my unpleasant duty to let you know that, in spite of pleas to the Argyll County Council, the Scottish Parliament and the Parliament in London, no maintenance work has been done on the Memorial. A few bushes have been cut down but the names on the Memorial are pretty well illegible as lichen and black fungus obscures most details.
One Argyll Councillor has spent much time and effort in trying to have refurbishment undertaken but his efforts have been in vain and a retired resident from outside the village has done a survey and detailed the work to be done to no effect.
A sad reflection on the Argyll County Council

August 5th.2019
The years roll by and the Argyll County Council are fully committed to do nothing to maintain or improve the condition of the now rapidly deteriorating Memorial at Minard despite numerous contacts from concerned residents and friends of the deceased. The names on the Monument can now only be deciphered with difficulty as a black lichen obscures the writing.
So much for the inscription on the Monument..."Their name liveth for evermore".
