Trying help a contact with research into Maj Angus Macmillan (McMillan on official records). http://www.scotlandswar.co.uk/macmillan_a.html and https://www.hebrideanconnections.com/people/13809.

My contact (also Angus Macmillan) is a descendant and is to give a talk about "the most decorated Lewisman of the Great War". I said I would see what I can find/confirm. He appears in the book was the subject "Loyal Lewis Roll of Honour" as "The Hero of Buzancy". https://digital.nls.uk/rolls-of-honour/archive/100232984?mode=transcription

I have his mic (very full) and the gazette entries for his MC, DSO and 'Croix de Chevalier' but can find nothing on his Croix de Guerre or later mention in despatches (but I don't have access to Forces War Records). I believe that the Croix de Chevalier is the lower order of the Legion de Honneur so that clears that one up but can anyone else help with gazette entries for the mid or for the Croix de Guerre? Or anything else that might be of interest?

Thanks

Croix de Guerre might have been awarded for the same event he got his MC for - I've seen that a few times.

the MC was gazetted in Jan 1917 and the DSO was gazetted in Oct 1918. The Croix de Chevalier was gazetted in Nov 1918 but I can find no evidence of the Croix de Guerre or the mic which are reported in the websites and roll of honour

The Croix de Chavalier is on page 13726 whilst the Croix de Guerre is on page 13727 of the LG 19 November 1918, Supplement 31024.
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31024/supplement/13726

All his entries in the Gazettes are under "Angus McMillan"

that's a great help, thanks - the search facility on the gazette has improved but I didn't find this one
