Does anyone know if this hamlet has a war memorial and if so, does anyone have any pictures? _________________

This is a very small place indeed whose main claim to fame is a stone circle nearby. I have never noticed a war memorial but of course, it has the eponymous kirk. I will make a point of having a good look around, next time I am there. It is only a couple of miles to the nearest towns, Oldmeldrum and Inverurie which has a really fine statue of a Gordon Highlander. |

Thanks for that.
I'm only guessing that there is a memorial there as when I "googled" it I found the following on a Bourtie website
"As is our practice we meet at the war memorial for 15 mins at 10.50am on Friday 11".
Perhaps there is only the one memorial in the area and it is at Meldrum?
I also "googled" this:
OLDMELDRUM Royal British Legion Scotland have won a prestigious award in the RBLS National Best Kept War Memorial competition 2006.
The war memorial, sited at Meldrum Church, won first prize in the Best Kept War Memorial (without garden) category. _________________

There could be a memorial there and I never thought to look for one. I never cease to be amazed at the seemingly lost and out-of-the-way places where I come across these poignant reminders that the Great War struck into every corner of the land and no more so than in Scotland. The prime local example is the memorial at Glen Ey, 4 cottages on a dead end road near Braemar. |

The Inverurie & District memorial is now added in a seperate post.
There is not a memorial outside Bourtie kirk or in the kirkyard. There may be a Roll of Honour in the kirk.
If not, it is likely those from Bourtie will be recorded at Inverurie or Oldmeldrum. _________________ Jim

From a very poor web pic of the inside of the church I think there is a War Memorial. I have e-mailed the church and await a response. |

No reply to my e-mail. Suggestion that the Kirk is no longer in use. It would really need someone locally at Old Meldrum to help out. |
