On 'Da West Side', this memorial is situated by the sea wall, between the two churches. Incidentally, the place is pronounced 'Waas'.

I was staggered at how many Merchant Seaman are listed on the Second World War panel. 14 out 15 men!

There are quite a few entries here where the sailor isn't on both CWGC and SNWN databases but they can all be found on at least one of them.

The name which is difficult to make out is James Dowell. I can't see him on CWGC.

WMR 8867 no longer refers to Walls. It has been reallocated to the Isle of Egilsay, Orkney
