Thank you for posting this memorial. It's like a naïve art version of monumental sculpture.
I like the Stellone d'Italia, the five pointed star used by Italian armed forces at the bottom.
I take it the material is concrete. It looks like they've used something else for a mould and then C.P.L. Carruthers W.R. has carved the inscription on it (and he forgot the POW bit at first as well).
I'd be interested to know what Italian POW's were doing for the Coastal Command in Shetland in 1945?
I'm assuming that after 1943 they would no longer have been POW's and by 1945 they were former POW's?

There are a lot of questions raised by this memorial, but sadly few answers so far.
But we'll continue digging and hopefully come up with more details soon.
