1939 – 1945


DRIVER S. GORDON, R.C.OF SIGS.
Samuel Gordon – age 32 – Driver (2354550) 10th Armoured Division Signals (The Middlesex Yeomanry) Royal Corps of Signals.
Samuel had worked for the County Council Roads Department for fourteen years when he enlisted in 1940. He had been overseas for nine months.
Born 1910 in Tinwald. Son of the late James Gordon and of Janet Gordon. Husband of Mary Jane (Grierson) Gordon of Barr View, Amisfield, Tinwald who he married in 1930 in Kirkmahoe, Dumfriesshire.
Killed in Action on 31 October 1942 and buried in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.


PTE. R. SHANNON, GORDON HIGHRS.
Robert Shannon – age 21 – Private (3197690) 6th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.
“Roy” was employed at Locharbriggs Quarry when he enlisted.
Born 1922 in Tinwald. Son of the late Robert Ferguson Shannon and of Joanna Stitt (Henderson or Jackson) Shannon of Church Cottage, Tinwald.
Killed in Action on 18 February 1944 and buried in Anzio War Cemetery, Italy.

On wmr i have now corrected the grid reference. While circus named the runways memorial it is now correctly located at amisfield.
