What's the point in having connections if you don't use them?
I emailed the chairperson of Scottish Association of Family History Societies and this is her response:
Hi Sandra
Second enquiry in as many days! I think you need to treat some of it as rumour. A new contract has been awarded to CACI and they will run the system from October 1. The website will be comp!etely new - several of us have had the chance to test certain aspects and comment. That much is TRUE.
Now the rest is a rumour as no-one knows yet what will be done about our accounts, credits and images and no announcement has come to SAFHS through the official channel. What we at SAFHS are recommending is that you load any SP vouchers you have onto the system before September. Societies are being advised not to stockpile vouchers as unused ones will likely be non-returnable.
The new website is what the public will also use in the SP Centre with access to modern records in addition.
So in short, credits on an account will be honoured but I have no idea what will happen about images paid for.
We have a user group meeting on Tuesday and will of course bring this up again so
If you want to email me again after that then there may or may not be more information.
I'll email her again, as she suggests, (if I remember!!) and will keep you posted. At the moment, it seems that no-one knows what's happening!

Thanks ever so Sandra!
It's nice to know that nobody knows!
If (when) you are in touch with your contact could you emphasize what a disaster this could be for those of us who have researched multiple names.
Thinking back, it could also be a pain in the elbow for the research into my own family.
I HATE change! _________________ Ken |

My "contact" in the family history world emailed me last night after the crunch meeting and here is the bit that applies to Scotland's People.
At the meeting today, I forced the issue on an official statement regarding credits etc.
So:
When the new website comes into force on 1 October, all the client accounts will be transferred over to the new system. All credits will be valid and all images paid for already will still appear in the clients accounts.
ScotlandsPeople Vouchers: These will still be valid. The actual physical vouchers will be phased out and will be replaced by codes.
Pricing for the time being will remain as is .
I hope this helps - hot off the press! I will be putting something out for going on the SAFHS website.
Regards
Janet |

I've noticed recently that if I search for someone using the County + Parish (for example Dumfries + Annan) I cannot find who I'm looking for but if I search on the County only - they are there!
Just had this from Scotlands people
Dear Kenneth,
Thank you for contacting ScotlandsPeople.
I can confirm that there are some issues with the site which are affecting the district list search. Our technical team are looking in to this and hope to have this resolved as soon as possible.
Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.
Kind regards,
Karen

My Great Grandfather chaired County Appeals Tribunals in Ayrshire. In 2015 I tried to find information about what tribunals he chaired. I consulted with an archivist at the National Archives and was told the following.
In 1921 the Ministry of Health ordered that all papers relating to individual cases of exemption from National Service were to be destroyed. Most Scottish Tribunal applications were therefore lost with the exception of those for Lothian and Peebles Appeal Tribunals which were exempt and retained as examples. These are deposited in the NAS REF HH30. Other chance survivals exist including papers from Ross Cromarty and Sutherland (Lewis Section).
In England only the Middlesex records remain.
I hope this is helpful |
