Wigtownshire Free Press (18/4/1918): Mrs Joseph Wilson, Over Airies, Whauphill, has received intimation that her son, Private James F Wilson, Cameron Highlanders, was killed in action in France on March 28th. Private Wilson was 28 years of age and was for some years in the service of the Earl of Stair, Lochinch Castle.

Taken from wrecksite.eu: On the 14th November 1940 the FISHPOOL had been sailing from the Tyne to Vancouver in ballast when she was hit by seven incendiary bombs South-West of Rockall killing several crew. The ship was abandoned and one lifeboat with 15 crew was never seen again. The ship was taken in tow and repaired.
On the 9th May 1941 while loading stores at Barrow-in-Furness FISHPOOL was again damaged by a parachute mine, which detonated next to the ship killing 2 crew.
FISHPOOL was finally sunk in an air raid at Syracuse on the 26th July 1943 while discharging ammunition and aviation spirit brought from Alexandria killing 23 crew and 5 DEMS gunners. 18 survived. |

The Huddersfield Drill Hall in Yorkshire have war memorials for the 5th and the 7th Bn Duke of Wellingtons Regt and the lettering have been refurbished with gold lettering as it was originally done
One of the casualties is listed on this War Memorial as well
Pte 26686 James Lynch , 1/7 Bn Duke of Wellingtons Regt born Glenluce Wigtownshire Enlisted Ayr died of wounds 11 April 1918
Formerly 27605 KOSB
The name of Pte 26686 James Lynch, 1/7 Bn Duke of Wellingtons Regt is listed on the Scottish National War Memoriat at the Edinburgh Castle as Scots serving with English Regiments .
