Wigtownshire Free Press (14/9/1916): Mr John Bell, Dunragit, has received official notice from the War Office that his brother, Private Jas A Bell, RSF, previously reported wounded and missing since the battle of Loos, September 26th 1915, is now reported killed on that date. Before joining the Army, Pte Bell was employed at Lochinch Gardens, and, later, as a foreman gardener with Colonel Buchanen, Drumpellier, Coatbridge.

Wigtownshire Free Press (17/2/1916): Official intimation has been received from the War Office that Corporal W Dorans has been missing since 13th November 1914 and that the Army Council has been regrettfully constrained to conclude that he is dead. Corporal Dorans was a Reservist at the outbreak of war, and was emplyed on the farm at Craigenholly, Glenluce.

Wigtownshire Free Press (10/10/1918): Mr and Mrs Fulton, East Borland, Glenluce, have been officially notified that their eldest son, Private John Fulton, A&SH, died of wounds received in action on September 19. Pte Fulton was 10 years with the colours, and spent most of his time in Malta and India. At the outbreak of war he came home on short leave, then rejoined his battalion and went to France where he went through some heavy fighting. In February 1916 he was drafted to Salonika.

Wigtownshire Free Press (9/5/1918): Mr & Mrs Lyon, The Schoolhouse, Glen of Luce, have been officially informed that their son, Lance Corporal James Lyon, Royal Scots, has been missing since 28th March. Lance-Corporal Lyon, who was recently home of furlough, had gone back direct to the firing line, and went amissing a few days after his arrival.

Wigtownshire Free Press (10/7/1919): Reported missing on 28th March 1918, now presumed killed on that date, Pte James Lyon, 13th Royal Scots, eldest son of John D Lyon and Mrs Lyon, Glen of Luce Schoolhouse, aged 19.

Wigtownshire Free Press (24/5/1917): Mr & Mrs James Mackey, Church Street, Glenluce, have received official notice that their only son, Sergt John Mackey, PO Rifles, attached QVR (City of London Regiment) was killed in action in France on April 14. Before enlisting Sergeant Mackey, who was 28 years of age, was a Glenluce postman. From a letter which his parents have received from the Company CO it appears that the deceased had been promoted only a few days before his death.

Prior to the war, Private McCaig was in the employment of Messrs Harrison, Dummer & Brown, Edinburgh. He received his education at Glenluce Academy, and was 25 years of age.

Canadian Attestation Papers state he was born at Portpatrick but his next of kin, his mother, lived at Kilfillan, Glenluce.

Wigtwonshire Free Press (30/5/1918): Mrs McCracken, Kilfillan, has received official intimation that her son, Private Thomas McCracken. Canadians, who was reported as wounded and missing since November 1917, is now presumed to be dead, and that his death took place on or since 11th November. Prior to enlisting Private McCracken was employed as an engineer in Canada.
