from http://protestantedigital.com/blogs/41006/comienzo_del_testimonio_de_las_asambleas_en_la_isla_de_gran_canaria
(auto translation)

The first evidence of the presence of missionaries established on the island for the purpose of evangelizing is 1892-93 with the arrival of the Portuguese and Foreign Bible Society, Roberto MacGarva, from Scotland. The colporteur MacGarva established his residence in Puerto de la Luz, place of passage of sailors and the consequent opportunities to extend the Gospel. His residence in the Canaries lasted for more than fifty years, between 1892 and 1945, first sowing the Scriptures in the archipelago and later as a businessman, while still supporting the work initiated by him. In the economic crisis of the 1930s D. Roberto MacGarva is in ruin and understands that he must return to ministerial work. He is in charge of the British Institute for sailors, in the street La Palma of the Port of the Light, it has and visits the ships with evangelical Literature.

A little snippet from the Wigtownshire Free Press (27/12/1917) that gives a bit more background about Pte R Fleming: "Mrs Fleming, Creamery Cottages, Dunragit, has been officially informed that her son, Private Robert Fleming, Royal Scots Fusiliers, is now presumed to have been killed in action on November 13 1916. Private Fleming, who joined the Army early in 1916, was previously in the employment of United Creameries Ltd, Dunragit."
