After 2 years of preparation we have finally got underway with our plan to erect a permanent Memorial to the seamen and women of Dundee who served in the Great War 1914-1919 and to those who died.
This covers the navy, mercantile marine and all associated sea services as well as fishermen and civilians. It includes all who were born, educated, trained, lived or worked in the City and its then surrounding areas-ie Newport,Monifieth etc
It will take the form of a brass plaque on a cherrywood surround in St Mary`s Parish Church,Nethergate,Dundee together with a one off Roll of Honour listing individual names etc.
St Mary`s of course houses the magnificent 4th Black Watch memorial as well as others.
We currently have over 500 names on the Roll and i expect that to rise.We are working with Roger Binks at SNWM to add to his Roll and we also expect to have some names to put forward to CWGC for recognition.
We have additional info, including pics, and this will be posted on the greatwardundee website in due course.
We have some funds in place and have just launched our crowdfunding link for the last £3000 to put the icing on the cake!
The Memorial and Roll will be unveiled in Spring 2017.
If anyone has any names or other info please get in touch as it all helps-thanks in anticipation
Hugh

The draft Roll of Honour is now available for scrutiny at dundeecity.gov.uk/seamensroh.
We would welcome any amendments, additions, comments etc from anyone by the end of January.
Thanks
Hugh

Pleased to say that on 10th July the Princess Royal unveiled the memorial plaque in St Mary's church, nethergate,Dundee. A copy of the Roll of Honour is now in the church and a copy is also in the City Chambers.
It can be viewed online on the leisureandculturedundee website under City of Dundee and the Sea Roll of Honour.
It contains 615 names and we have already found a few more!
