He is not commemorated anywhere locally in the Whitehaven area, and all our cross checks had failed to establish this additional casualty, so thanks for this.
There was no mention of him in the local newspaper so it looks as if he had moved away from Whitehaven long before 1913.

Changes are afoot at this memorial. The cairn and cross have been removed and a new statue of a KOSB piper on a plinth has been installed. There are to be new name plaques added in the coming weeks/months with additional names over the existing plaques.

There was a news item on local TV on 19th October.

There was some discussion about this man back in 2009 (pages 1&2) and just to add to the confusion I recently found this in the Dumfries & Galloway Standard 30/1/1918 p.3
SANQUHAR SOLDIER'S DEATH A wire reached Sanquhar on Mondav conveying the news of the death of Private Edward Watson, R.F.A., in the south England. Deceased was a native of Sanquhar, and at one time was an enthusiastic Volunteer and a member of Sanquhar brass band. He migrated to Preston, Lancashire, several years ago, but periodically visited his native town. Since war broke out he has been a sergeant in the Volunteer Corps at Preston, and only about ten days ago he joined the colours. News of his death came as a surprise, and was received with profound regret. He was the second son the late Mr James Watson. Buccleuch Road, and was about 42 years of age. His widow is member of a highly respected Sanquhar family.

In fact Mark got it right that he was the man named above on the SNWM.

For some reason CWGC have him as F. WATSON and he is buried in Sanquhar Churchyard (I think in a family plot)

PTE. EDWARD WATSON, M.R.F.C.
Edward Watson – age 41 – Air Mechanic 2nd Class (119615) Reserve Depot, Royal Flying Corps.
Edward was educated at Sanquhar Public School and served his apprenticeship at a tailor in Sanquhar. He was a member of the local Volunteers and of the Sanquhar Brass Band but by 1911 he and his wife and young son Tom were living in 14 Clarendon Place in Preston, Lancashire where he became a Sergeant in the Territorials. He joined the Royal Flying Corps just ten days before his death in the Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot, Farnham, Hampshire.
Born 1876 in Sanquhar. Son of the late James and Jessie or Janet (Penman) Watson of Buccleuch Road, Sanquhar. Husband of Jessie (Cunningham) Watson who he married in 1901 in Sanquhar.
Died on Service on 27 January 1918 and buried in Sanquhar Parish Churchyard Extension (CWG)
Also named on the Sanquhar School memorial.

The last letter on the memorial does look like a "G" but I think it is meant to convey Mechanic Royal Flying Corps (M.R.F.C.)

The number of colliery men named on this memorial is a reflection of the size of the industry in northern Dumfriesshire and the adjacent southern Ayrshire.

futuremuseum.co.uk has:
Coal has been mined in the Sanquhar and Kirkconnel area since earliest times, from shallow and easily accessible seams. In 1848 the first deep pit at Gateside was sunk, and another at Bankend opened in 1857. The New Gateside Pit was opened in 1891, and five years later Fauldhead Pit, the largest in the coalfield, was commissioned. In 1903 the coal works, by now the largest in private ownership in Scotland, became 'The Sanquhar and Kirkconnel Collieries Limited'.

Both Fauldhead and Gateside Pits were in Kirkconnel Parish but the latter was very close to Sanquhar.
