This memorial to the Clydebank Blitz lies in Old Dalnottar Cemetery, which is just before the Erskine Bridge slip road on the A82 as you come from Glasgow.

The memorial is made of stone and measures about 4m long by less than 1m deep. There is a central wider and taller part of the memorial with flanking walls. This central pillar is just over 2m high. Both the central pillar and the flanking walls have a stepped base/plinth from which the pillar and walls arise.

The Central pillar has a brass and enamel burgh crest above the inscription. The inscription is picked out in gold lettering. Below the inscription is a square stone detail which is less than 1m high. It shows a stone flame arising from a square urn which has a relief pattern around it. This urn is on a stone pedestal which contains a small, vertically orientated relief of leaves.

Each flanking wall has a relief of a wreath in its centre and both the main pillar and the flanking walls have a thin relief of leaves towards their tops, on both the front and rear sides

In front of the memorial are four small stone posts which have a chain between them. The posts have a small relief of leaves similar to the base below the square stone urn.

The memorial lies in the middle of the cemetery on a gravel base and surrounded by grass.

It seems that some new name panels have been added to this memorial. Anyone able to get some pics?

Updated photos of the memorial and the panels.

The memorial is approx. fifty yards away from the mass burial site, which is unmarked.

It really makes you think. I haven't counted the names but the press release (link above) says 528 names. The youngest I saw was just 5 weeks old.

Very poignant. Whole families lost. Thanks to John for adding the panels.
