The separate Depots of the Glasgow Transport Corporation originally had their own memorials. Now that most of the depots have been closed they are located in Parkhead Depot which still operates as part of First Bus.

My thanks to Alex Glass for these photographs.

First of all some general shots of the "Memorial Garden". Please note that this is in the car park and seems to be barricaded in by cars.

Unfortunatel that last photo cut out the name Francis TRAYNOR. Apologies for that, but the "main" photo shows the names reasonably well.

Listed on the New Luce War Memorial in Wigtownshire as:
ROBERT McMEEKING, R.F.A. KILLED 12th JUNE 1917.

Robert McMeeking – age 29 – Gunner (951578) 256th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
Robert was employed on the Glasgow Corporation Tramways and was living at 145 Holmlea Road, Cathcart, Glasgow when he enlisted. (Source:WFP 12/7/1917 p.3d, SDGW and Glasgow Roll of Honour)
Born 1888 in New Luce – as McMecking. (Source:GRoS – Birth Register)
Son of William and Agnes (Hannay) McMecking, of Waterfoot, New Luce.
(Source:CWGC and family grave in New Luce Parish Churchyard)
Killed in Action – 12 June 1917.
Commonwealth War Grave – Anzin-St.Aubin British Cemetery, Arras, France.
Listed on the GCT Langside Depot Memorial, now at the Parkhead Depot.

Named on the Kirkpatrick Fleming Parish War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

JAMES THOMSON, TOPPINGHEAD, H.L.I.
James Thomson – age 27 – Lance Corporal (1749 & 240313) 1/6th (City of Glasgow) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.
James was a tramway car conductor in Glasgow and was living at 233 Holmlea Road in Cathcart when he enlisted. He joined his battalion in Egypt in 1916 and served in Palestine before moving to France in April 1918. He was Mentioned in Despatches for his actions in Palestine. James died of influenza in hospital in Douai near Arras.
Born 1891 at Millcroft, Annan. Son of the late George Thomson and of Margaret (Black) Thomson of Kirkpatrick Fleming, of Annan and of 5 Knowe Terrace, Inverkeithing and of 1 Hope Street, Inverkeithing, Fife; and step-son of Andrew Thomson.
George died in 1898 in Kirkpatrick Fleming and Margaret re-married to Andrew Thomson in 1903 in Kirkpatrick Fleming.
Husband of Margaret C. Thomson of 5 Knowe Terrace, Inverkeithing, Fife.

Died on Active Service on 3 November1918 and buried in Douai British Cemetery, Cuincy, France.

Mrs Thomson 5 Knowe Terrace Inverkeithing has received intimation of the death of her husband, Lance Corporal A (sic). Thomson, Highland Light Infantry, in hospital in France from influenza. He was the third son of the late Mr George Thomson, Toppinghead, and grandson of the late Mr Nichol Thomson, Bonshawside, Kirtlebridge, where Lance Corporal Thomson was born. He was employed as a tramway car conductor in Glasgow upto the outbreak of war.

J. BALLANTYNE.
James William Ballantyne – age 29 – Private (31521) 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
James was a tram car conductor with Glasgow Corporation Tranways and was living at Dowanhill Street in Partick when he married in 1914. He enlisted in Glasgow.
Born 1889 in Langholm, Dumfriesshire. Son of the late Mary (Muir) Ballantyne and of William Ballatyne of Langholm. Husband of Betsy Margaret (Strang) Ballantyne of 7 Rannoch Street, Cathcart who he married in 1914 in Hillhead, Glasgow.
Missing in Action on 11 April 1918 and named on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
Also listed on the Glasgow Roll of Honour.

Named on the Lochmaben War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

Sgt. J. MOFFAT, H.L.I.
James Moffat – age 34 – Sergeant (13095) 15th Battalion (1st Glasgow) Highland Light Infantry.
James was employed by the Glasgow Corporation Tramways at the Langside Depot when he enlisted in 1914. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in November 1915.
Born 1882 in Lochmaben. Son of the late John Moffat, blacksmith at Templand Village, Lochmaben and of the late Agnes (Buchanan) Moffat. Husband of Mary Arbuckle (Warnock) Moffat of 27 Boyd Street, Crosshill, Glasgow who he married in 1914 in Cathcart, Glasgow.
Note: CWGC has this lady as his mother.
Killed in Action on 19 April 1917 and buried in Chapelle British Cemetery, Holnon, Aisne, France.
Also named on the 15th HLI memorial now in the Riverside Transport Museum in Glasgow, on the GCT Langside Depot memorial now in the Parkhead Depot and on the Glasgow Roll of Honour.
