A new memorial stone next to the war memorial was unveiled yesterday.
There was a huge parade. Gordon Highlanders formed up in North Pringle St. and with motor cylcles leading The Gordons marched off with pipe band and colours.
What a sight. After stopping at the war memorial it was the long march to Liinzee Gordon Park. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |

As per Anne Park's posts for William Robt Milne (pg 9), John W Cowie (pg 3), and Rbt A G Scott (pg 11), the former was my great uncle and John and Robert were his best friends; and they all joined the RNVR, RND, together along with John Birnie, another friend who survived the war. John Cowie died first at Beaucourt and then Willie died on 3.2.1917 during the attack on Puisieux Trench, with Bob dying the following day during the same action. The 3 of them are named together on the same pier on the Thiepval Memorial.
I had the privilege of laying a wreath and crosses for them there on the centenary of their deaths last year.
I have some photos of the 4 lads together, (John Birnie included), if they would be of interest here.
Kind regards,
Carol Johnstone. |
