Situated 50 m off the minor road from Barrhill to Barrhill railway station. It is a small, walled enclosure with a tablet on the wall. It reads: Erected anew 1825. To the memory of John Murchie and Daniel Meiklewrick, at the expence of a generous public, and friends to the same Covenanted cause, for which these martyrs suffered, bled and died, in the persecution of 1685. "Here is the place two martyrs lie, whose blood to heaven hath a loud cry, murder'd contrary to divine laws for owning of King Jesus' cause, By bloody Drummond they were shot, without any trial near this spot."

The headstone is badly damaged but apparently reads: Here lys John Murchie and Daniel McIlwrick martyrs by bloody Drummond they were shot 1685. Renewed by Gilbert McIlwrick in Alticannoch 1787.

Thanks Mike, I have reported the condition of the gravestone to the Scottish Covenanter Memorials Association via our minister (Dr David Bartholomew) who is an active member.

Thanks Paul, the whole monument felt in need of TLC. Not helped by the larch plantation it was standing in. Compare that to the new notice board we have for the Wigtown martyrs - it's just gone up today so I'll ger a pic asap.

As this is a grave this is not a valid memorial under the WMR/UKNIWM definitions
