GEORGE DODDS, L&BH.

DODDS, G.
Rank: Private
Service No: 2065
Date of Death: 08/01/1916
Regiment/Service: Lothians and Border Horse
Cemetery: YETHOLM PARISH CHURCHYARD

Unusually the CWGC page for the Churchyard has a photograph of the family gravestone.

I ran across the details of this man's death while researching the death of another 2/1st Lothian and Borders Horse lad who had died on the following day (9 Jan)
They had both contracted measles while serving at the Amisfield Camp in Haddington and George died of cardiac failure, aged 22. He had been a Bank Clerk and the CWGC grave register shows that he had worked in the Bank of Scotland in Kelso. (He is on the BoS memorial in Edinburgh)
His father is named as James Dodds and his mother as ------- Rodgers.
The gravestone confirms that James had retired as a schoolmaster at Mertoun and his wife was Annie Rodgers.

George had been born on 20 April 1893 in Mertoun.

The other man was Walter Jackson Graham, aged 17. Private 2199 and he was buried in Langholm, Dumfriesshire.
