The Gymnasium building at Edinburgh Academy is the school's war memorial.
The WW1 plaques are on either side of the main doorway.
The WW2 plaques are mounted above the lower doors.
Photographs were from Margaret and Graham Wright of Gatehouse of Fleet.

The missing man is Thomas Davidson-2nd Lt Cameron Highlanders 1916 then Flight Commander RFC.Listed as missing so presumably he turned up!

JH Thomson (John Harvey) is also remembered on the Stirling memorial and Roll of Honour and on the St Columba's church memorial.

Missing – Stirling Airman: Lieutenant J H Thomson
Second Lieutenant John Harvey Thomson, observer, Royal Air Force, is reported missing since Wednesday 9th October. Lieutenant Thomson is the elder son of ex-Provost and Mrs Thomson, Park Terrace and is twenty years of age. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and played in the 2nd XV and was for a time in Edinburgh University OTC. He afterwards joined the RAF and underwent training at St Leonards, Bath and other places, obtaining his commission in the first week of July this year. He was at once sent to France and has since been actively engaged in the arduous and hazardous work undertaken by the RAF.[/i]

THOMSON, JOHN HARVEY (b. 1898).
Edinburgh Academy. University O.T.C. Artillery, Aug. 1916 to May 1917,
Cadet; Officer Cadet May 1917. 5th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, Private Oct. 1917.
R.A.F., Cadet Dec. 1917; 2nd Lieut. (Observer) July 1918. France; Marne, and Somme. Killed near Thulin on 9th October 1918.

From CWGC:
A number of bodies were re-interred in the Cement House Cemetery including from - THULIN NEW COMMUNAL CEMETERY, which contained the graves of eight British soldiers of August 1914 and two R.A.F. officers of October 1918.

Thank you for that, Ken.
I didn't realise CWGC had the bit about re-interring some bodies. We can't be certain John Thomson was one of them but it looks pretty likely.

I'm writing profiles of all the lads on the church war memorial for the monthly newsletter (possibly then compiled into a booklet "for posterity") so any information is very welcome.

IAN MALCOLM AITKEN.
John Malcolm Aitken – age 19 – Second Lieutenant, "D" Battery, 82nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
Ian was educated at Warriston School in Moffat, Dumfriesshire and at Edinburgh Academy and was a cadet in the Edinburgh University Officer Training Corps from April to December 1917. He was commissioned in June 1918 and went to France on 26 September. Ian was wounded in action on 10 October near Le Cateau during the battle of Cambrai, and died two days later.
Born 1899 in St. Mungo, Dumfriesshire. Son of John Malcolm Aitken and Isobella Wilson Aitken of Norwood House, Lockerbie.
Died of Wounds on 12 October 1918 and buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, Somme, France.
Also named on the Warriston School Memorial, on the Edinburgh University Roll of the Fallen, on the St. Mungo Parish memorial in the parish church in Kettleholm, Dumfriesshire, on the Lockerbie War Memorial and on the St. Cuthbert Church Memorial in Lockerbie.
