Wigtownshire Free Press (26/4/1917): Mr and Mrs Little, Barncorkerie, Drummore, have received official intimation that their only son, Private John Little, Highland Light Infantry, was slightly wounded in action, and has been admitted to the 3rd General Hospital, France.

Wigtownshire Free Press (18/4/1918): Killed in action in France on 21st March, Private John Little, only son of William Little, Barncorkrie, Kirkmaiden.

Wigtownshire Free Press (15/11/1917): Mr William McMeekan, Cairngarroch, Drummore, has received official intimation that his son, Private Alexander McMeekan, Buffs, was killed in action in France on 11 October. Pte McMeekan served eight years in the Royal Irish Lancers, four in the Reserve. His time had expired before war broke out, but he immediately joined up. Mr McMeekan has three other sons in the Army.

National Archives of Australia identify Alexander as enlisting on 2/12/1915, the son of Alexander Ballantyne of Main Street, Drummore. He was 32 years old and a sailor by trade. The papers describe his burial place as, "Buried Mouquet Farm, between farm and quarry. 100 yards from duck boards. "

Wigtownshire Free Press (19/10/1916): Mr D Chalmers, Church Street, Drummore, has received officiaal intimation that his nephew, Private William Chalmers, 49th Battalion, Canadian Contingent, was killed in action in France on September 15th. Private Chalmers is a grandson of the late Mr D Chalmers, Drummore, and was reared in the village by his grandparents. About 16 years ago he emigrated to Western Canada where he was employed as an electrical engineer. He joined the Canadian Force shortly after the outbreak of war, and was on active service in France for over a year. [The report includes a photograph of Pte Chalmers.]

Wigtownshire Free Press (12/4/1917): News has been received from the War Office intimating the death, on 1 April, at Dar-es-Salaam, East Africa, from blackwater fever, of Driver David McDowall, ASC. Driver McDowall joined the MTC in November 1915, and was sent out to East Africa the following January. Prior to enlisting he was engaged as a motor driver in the district. He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Samuel McDowall, Drummore. [The report carries a photograph of Driver McDowall.]

Wigtownshire Free Press (23/3/1944): Mrs McQuillan, Sunny Bank, Drummore, has received news that her husband, Lance-Corporal McQuillan, KOSB, has been killed in action in Burma. Lance-Corporal McQuillan was a son of Mr and Mrs McQuillan, Drummontrae, Ardwell, and prior to joining the Forces was employed in the Co-Operative Creamery, Stranraer. He was 31 years of age and leaves a widow and one of a family.
