Previously posted on the Scottish War Graves Project, this has now been moved here where it is more appropriate. He did not die as a result of war so this is not technically a war memorial but is a memorial to a military man.

Location, not easy to find, Maxwelton Chapel is on a backroad off the A702 near Kirkland at OS Map Ref NX 825 895.

For further details about the chapel, please see posting for the Laurie memorial in the same chapel. When I visited, the chapel was undergoing some refurbishment and many of the plaques had been temporarily removed from the walls.

Major General Sir John Emilius Laurie. He was the owner of the chapel and the estate.

Not listed on UKNIWM.

For WMR/UKNIWM purposes this does not technically count as a war memorial, so will not therefore be listed.

If there was evidence that he had served in WW2 it would be a memorial, but that is not given, at least in the wording on the plaque. I can see his age and agree that in all probablility he did.
