Not listed on UKNIWM

Location Holy Ground Community church at OS Map Ref NX 060 605. This was formerly the Stranraer Old Parish church which closed in 2005. All other memorials were moved to the Stranraer Town Kirk.

Captain John Taylor son of Hugh Lewis Taylor MD
born in Stranraer 1st June 1793 and died there 30th September 1863
and is interred in the tomb at the entrance of this churchyard
He was one of the few remaining veterans of the peninsular war, having served through these campaigns in the 91st Highlanders until dangerously wounded at the battle of Orthes, the bullet being in his head four years.
Vittoria, Pampeluna, Pyranees, Nive, Nivelle, Bayonne, Toulouse and Orthes, were some of the hard won fields in which he was engaged, and for which he received a Penisular medal. He afterwards filled the duties of Staff Officer of Pensioners in the Carlisle District
and was for many years a magistrate of his local county, he was a man of great benevolence and the strictest integrity, esteemed and respected by all who knew him, and deeply mourned by his widow and family.
